Happy Birthday !

Richard (Dick) B. Cheney (1941):

Vice President of the United States who has served three Presidents as an elected official. Cheney earned both his bachelor’s and master’s degree in Political Science at the University of Wyoming, and caught the attention of Representative Donald Rumsfeld while he was doing a fellowship for a local Republican congressman. Rumsfeld was so impressed with Cheney’s character and intelligence that he hired him to assist the Office of Economic Opportunity under President Nixon. A rising star on the political scene, Cheney served on Nixon’s Cost of Living Council, and with the advent of the Ford Administration in 1974, Cheney became one of the youngest men ever to be named White House Chief of Staff. When Ford left the White House, Cheney returned to Wyoming to be elected to Congress, and in 1989 he was named Secretary of Defense by President George Bush. For his leadership during the Gulf War, Cheney was awarded the Presidential Medal of Freedom in 1991.

Our nation owes a lot of gratitude for your service sir. You have been one of the most effective Vice Presidents in our history and I for one salute you.
