Newsweak Is Responsible For Countless Deaths
They retract.
That's a big help to our country. How many Muslims will hear, let alone believe the retraction ? How many people died because of Newsweek's sloppy journalism ? How many Americans will die in the future because of new recruits to the Jihad generated by this bogus report ? Newsweek has surpassed SeeB.S. as the worst example of the MSM. There should be a full criminal investigation into Newsweek's inciting riots among other charges.
The Afghans demand an explaination. But NOT for Newsweek printing a false story, they want an explanation as to why our soldiers were desecrating the Koran. Which they weren't. Thanks a lot Newsweak. I can see that Newsweak has the same agenda as the rest of the MSM. Tear down the Bush Administration. Tear down our military. Tear down our country. Destroy anything good that the conservative movement has done simply because it was Conservatives that made good happen. No matter the cost. They are beyond revulsion.
They did the same thing SeeB.S. did. They rushed into a story and wanted to believe the worst. They hoped for the worst. They wanted the worst. They needed the worst. So they printed it. Damaging our country immeasurably in the process. Traitors. Beyond disgust.

"We regret that we got any part of our story wrong, and extend our sympathies to victims of the violence and to the U.S. soldiers caught in its midst," Newsweek Editor Mark Whitaker wrote in a note to readers.

Don't believe it for a second. This was exactly what they wanted to happen. They wanted the fragile emerging Democracies of Afghanistan, Iraq, Palestine, Lebanon, et all to be dealt a blow to make the Bush Administration look bad. Lies lies lies. Mark Whitaker, Michael Isikoff and John Barry and all involved should be tried for sedition and treason. At the very least they should be tried for criminal negligence. To bad there's not a charge for criminal incompetence.

Many of the 520 inmates at Guantanamo are Muslims arrested during the U.S.-led war against the Taliban and its al-Qaida allies in Afghanistan.

Huh. Imagine that. Many of the members of the Taliban and al-Qaida are Muslims ! What insight ! Heavens ! This must mean that we are persecuting Muslims ! How else are we to interpret this ?

Pentagon spokesman Bryan Whitman said in a statement that the original story was "demonstrably false" and "irresponsible," and "had significant consequences that reverberated throughout Muslim communities around the world."

"But what the hey ! It's the press and they have the right to spread filthy lies about our government and military, right ?"

"Newsweek hid behind anonymous sources, which by their own admission do not withstand scrutiny," Whitman said. "Unfortunately, they cannot retract the damage they have done to this nation or those that were viciously attacked by those false allegations."

Damned right. They should pay for this outrage.

Whitaker wrote that the magazine's information came from "a knowledgeable U.S. government source," and before it published the item, writers Michael Isikoff and John Barry sought comment from two Defense Department officials. One declined to respond, and the other challenged another part of the story but did not dispute the Quran charge, Whitaker said.

So they called only two other sources neither of which could confirm or deny the accusations and still they ran with the story ? They caused and will continue to cause untold deaths from this "journalism". They are beneath scum.

Two points: (1) If they had wrongly reported the race of a criminal and produced a lynching, they'd feel much worse -- which is why they generally don't report such things, a degree of sensitivity they don't extend to reporting on, you know, minor topics like wars; and (2) If a blogger had made a similar mistake, with similar consequences, we'd be hearing about Big Media's superior fact-checking and layers of editors. People died, and U.S. military and diplomatic efforts were damaged, because - let's be clear here -- Newsweek was too anxious to get out a story that would make the Bush Administration and the military look bad.
