RIP Peter Falk

Legendary "Columbo" star Peter Falk has died at the age of 83.

Falk "died peacefully at his Beverly Hills home in the evening of June 23, 2011," a rep tells KTLA.

The actor had been suffering from dementia and Alzheimer's disease, according to his adopted daughter, Catherine Falk.

Falk won four Emmys for his starring role in the television detective series, "Columbo." He also received Academy Award nominations for movies in 1959 and 1960.

Falk portrayed "Columbo" on 69 episodes from 1968 to 2003.

He also starred in "Princess Bride," "Brigadoon" and "The Great Race."

RIP Queenie

Queenie the waterskiing elephant dies

Queenie was put down earlier this week at the age of 59 after her health deteriorated, according to the Wild Adventures theme park in south Georgia where she retired to in 2003.

Dane began training Queenie to water ski at a Florida theme park, where the animal performed to music several times a day for 15 years. She also played the harmonica. Dane, who performed alongside Queenie, said the elephant's death was "extremely sad".

HILTON HEAD ISLAND, S.C. — A 38-year-old father of two was jogging and listening to his iPod when he was hit from behind and killed by a small plane making an emergency landing on the beach, officials said today.

Robert Gary Jones of Woodstock, Ga., died instantly last evening when he was hit by the single-engine plane, which had lost its propeller, said Beaufort County Coroner Ed Allen. The pilot's vision was blocked by oil on the windshield.

Jones apparently did not see or hear the plane, which was "basically gliding," the coroner said.

Santa Dies In Front Of Kids

Children watched in horror as a Santa Claus collapsed and died as he handed out presents at a Christmas party.

Andrew Robertson, 82, took ill as excited youngsters were being given their gifts.

He was taken to a side room, still dressed in a Father Christmas outfit, and attempts were made to revive him.

But when medics arrived, he was pronounced dead.

A Well Hung Santa

A large blindfolded Santa hanging from a noose from a high tree in a man's yard has angered homeowners in a Florida neighborhood, according to a Local 6 News report. The Santa also has his hands and legs bound by some type of wire.

He certainly is well hung.
