EDWARD
EDWARD - Electric Diwheel With Active Rotation Damping
This project by students in the School of Mechanical Engineering, the University of Adelaide involved the construction of a human operated diwheel called EDWARD. Many diwheels in the past have been human powered or powered by IC engines. This one is purely electric. It has additional functionality lacking in other models, including inbuilt dynamic lateral stability and slosh control to prevent "gerbiling" or tumbling in aggressive braking or acceleration maneuvers. The diwheel also incorporates a unique feature that allows the rider to drive the vehicle when "upside down" - keeping the vehicle in its unstable state.
This video shows the outcomes from the developments during 2010, which includes successful slosh control, swing-up and inversion control.

This charade was all a right-wing fabrication.

In an unlikely and extremely entertaining twist, Andrew Breitbart took the podium at a press conference scheduled by Congressman Anthony Weiner in New York City. Breitbart discussed the circumstances surrounding the Weinergate scandal, which was broken on Big Government and Big Journalism. He also challenged the media to name one lie he has told or reported; there was no discernible response from the crowd of Manhattan journalists.
Breitbart told a Fox News reporter, “of course this wasn’t a set up… I went to the podium because a gaggle of press people asked me.” Breitbart went on to say “Congressman Weiner made much of last week about trying to blame me…I felt I needed to set the record straight.”
I love Andrew Breitbart, like a Viking.

Bank Foreclosure
This is too sweet.
A bank foreclosure story you've got to see to believe. A Collier County couple turns the tables on Bank of America, the bank that tried to foreclose on their home. Now, the family is foreclosing on the bank! Even bringing trucks and deputies ready to seize property.
The foreclosure nightmare started when Warren and Maureen Nyerges paid cash for a home owned by Bank of American in the Golden Gate Estates. They never had a mortgage whatsoever. But, the bank fouled it up and wound up issuing a foreclosure through their attorney.
The couple took their case to court and after a year and a half nightmare the foreclosure was dropped. A Collier County judge said Bank of America has to pay the couple's $2,534 legal fees for the error. After more than five months the bank still hadn't paid up. So, the homeowners' attorney did just what the bank would do to get their money, legally seize their assets.
"I instructed the deputy to go in and take desks, computers, copiers, filing cabinets, including cash in the drawers," Attorney Todd Allen told WINK News.

RIP Queenie
Queenie the waterskiing elephant dies
Queenie was put down earlier this week at the age of 59 after her health deteriorated, according to the Wild Adventures theme park in south Georgia where she retired to in 2003.
Dane began training Queenie to water ski at a Florida theme park, where the animal performed to music several times a day for 15 years. She also played the harmonica. Dane, who performed alongside Queenie, said the elephant's death was "extremely sad".

This Is Precisely Why I Don't Go To Church
An argument at a Mililani church yesterday ended with one man in the hospital with a stab wound and two men arrested for investigation of second-degree attempted murder, police said.
The fight began at Mililani Presbyterian Church at 95-410 Kuahelani Ave. at 2:44 p.m. when a 23-year-old man got into an argument with the brother of another 23-year-old man, police said.
The 23-year-old man involved in the argument and a 20-year-old man both had knives and attacked the 23-year-old victim, police said.
The 23-year-old man allegedly punched the victim and stabbed at him while the 20-year-old man allegedly cut the victim on his left arm, causing a large laceration, police said.
Family members detained both men until police arrived and arrested both suspects for investigation of second-degree attempted murder. The 23-year-old man also was arrested on suspicion of an outstanding warrant.
The victim was taken to a nearby hospital in serious condition and was treated for a stab wound, police said.
A weapon was recovered at the scene, police said.
This is precisely why I don't go to church ;-)

What The Hell Is Up With Blogger ?
I have not been able to login for three days.
If I use Google Chrome 11.0.696.68 and go to www.blogspot.com I get "Not Found Error 404"
It turns out that if I use Internet Explorer, I can log in.
When I use Internet Explorer I have to do that STUPID verification crap. The IP addresses I use have not changed in MONTHS. Why the HELL do they keep insisting on verification ?
Pretty damned stupid when their own product can't find their own web site.
I can't post using Internet Explorer, but I can using Firefox 4.0.1

The "W" Word
I met a lovely and charming woman while walking from the parking garage to work this morning. Her name was Kelly. We work for the same company in very different areas. We chatted up a storm and it was fun. Our conversation turned to where we live and she said the "W" word.

Drug trafficker with twelve fingers identified by his hands
An man accused of being a drug trafficker was detained by police after they confirmed his identity through a rare birth defect: six fingers on each hand.
Police in Brazil's southern state of Santa Catarina said his hands were the key to capturing the wanted man.
"We had indications that it was him, but because he presented his brother's papers as identification we had no proof," said police commissioner Enio de Oliveira Matos.
"Given this peculiarity, we requested information from the Institute of Identification in the state of Parana, where he was born, and with this feature, it was possible to confirm his identity."
The detained man had been wanted for drug trafficking in the state of Mato Grosso.
