- 1896 Dr. Henry Louis Smith takes the first X-ray photograph in U.S. history. The photograph is of a hand with a bullet in it.
- 1949 "Kukla, Fran and Ollie", the Chicago-based children’s show, made its national debut on NBC-TV. A live, daily, ad-libbed puppet show that was watched by more adults than children.
- 1966 "Batman" debuts on television.
