Penetential Psalm Psalm 50 PEREGRINUS JAN 22
Ha mercy on me, God, efter þy mychel mercy.
And efter þe mychelnes of þy pites do way my wickednes.
Whasshe me more of my wickednes, and clense me of myn synne.
For ich knowe my wickednes, and my synne ys euermore oȝains me.
Ich haue synned to þe alon, and ich haue don iuel to-fore þe, þa-tou be made ryȝt-ful in þy wordes, and þatou ouercum whan þou art iuged.
Se! for ich am conceiued in wickednesses, and my moder conceiued me in synnes.
Se! for þou loued soþenes; þe vncerteyn þynges and pryue of [þy] wisdom þou made to me apert.
Þou sprengest me, Lord, wyþ þy mercy, and y shal be made clene; þou shalt purifie me, and y shal be made whyȝte vp snowe.
Þou shalt ȝeue ioie and gladnes to myn heryng, and þe mylde dedes of my hert shul gladen.
Turne þy face fram myn synnes, and do oway al myn wickednes.
Ha God, make in me clene hert, and newe þou a ryȝt gost in myn hert.
Ne putt me nouȝt fram þy face, and ne do nauȝt o-way fram me þyn holy gost.
Ȝelde to me gladnes of þyn helþe, and conferme me wyþ þyn holy gost. [Latin and English omitted here in manuscript.]
Y shal techen þe wicked þyn wayes, and þe wicked shul ben conuerted to þe.
Ha þou God, God of myn helþe, deliuer me of sinnes, and my tunge shal gladen þy yȝtfulnes.
Lord, þou shalt open myn lippes, and my mouþe shal tellen þyn heryyng.
For ȝyf þou hade wolde, ich hade ȝeuen sacrifice; forsoþe þou ne shalt nouȝt deliten in sacrifices.
Trubled gost is sacrifice to God; þou, God, ne shal nouȝt despisen þe hert sorowful and meke.
Do blisfullich, Lord, to þy chosen in þy gode wille, þat þe gode be confermed in heuens.
Þan shal tou take sacrifice of ryȝt, seruice, and honours; hij shul þan setten godenesses to-fore þy throne.
